Logo designs.
During my time working as a graphic designer at Neos Kosmos, Melbourne’s leading Greek newspaper, I was tasked with designing logos for the various feature sections of the paper. I was also tasked with refining the existing company logotype for a potential company re-brand.
The name Neos Kosmos means “New World” in Greek and I chose to represent the “world” in a circular formation. The circle is divided in two halves has two significant meanings; good news and bad news - a harmonious unity of two opposites;the sun and moon represents the dawn of a new day - readers start their day reading the paper.
The left half represents the sun, designed with 9 circles. In the 6th Century, the Greek Pythagoreans founded a system based on numerology. For them, the first 9 numbers held sacred meanings. 3 represented Harmony since 1 meant Unity, and 2 meant Disorder. Add the two together and you reach a harmonious conclusion; 9 represented Triple Perfection.
